For years the Los Angeles Times maintained a Homicide Report covering every homicide in LA County .

Location

Date

Cause of death

Name

Age

Race

Was there any police involvement

Some surprises

5% of homicides involving black victims had any police involvement. Police involvement covered everything from unjustified shooting or to an interrupted armed robbery and gunfight . Much more of the later.

10% of the homicides involving white victims had some police involvement.

With the new owners the Homicide Report was no longer updated

Inconvenient to the narratives needed.

Someone will collect up data - hoping to affirm their beliefs and get /gain notoriety from it. Then, find out - their notions aren't quite born out by that data. It confuses them - if they know how to collect data. (Which some do, some don't.)

What really sucks if they do know how, they gotta explain those results - and find out how others will respond.

New owners sound like they were not pleased. And there went an opportunity!

Good story BTW!
